All In One Belt Tool
T
he first time I wrote about this tool I wasn't totally sure it was worth its weight. Then a reader wanted to know where to find the tool and explained he was looking for his second such tool and that I might want to spend a bit more time with the product before I made my judgment call.

Always willing to listen to a fellow gardener I started attaching the all in one tool which includes by- pass shears, knife, pronged cultivator, saw blade, combination weeder and peeler to my belt when I planned to spend a few hours in the garden. I did find it had its uses. I used the knife to cut twine and plastic ties. I used the by- pass shears for sporadic small branch pruning. (I think using a good pair of hand shears for comfort is best if you plan on a lot of plant trimming.) I've used the cultivator and peeler (on an orange or two) once in awhile. It can be a useful tool.

Scabbard and fold up multi-tool can fit on your belt.

Handy garden multi-tool.

Cutting shears, knife, peeler, saw, weeder and cultivator all in one compact package.

Multi-tool with all its components.

I still have one major complaint with the tool. It's heavy for wearing on a belt and it had a tendency to pull my pants toward earth so I found myself constantly tugging at my pants to keep them in the preferred position. I didn't have the problem if I put the tool in my back pocket which is where I now carry it.  The all in one tool can be quite useful if you plan on doing a variety of tasks in the garden whether stuck in your back pocket or in your garden tool bucket.

I purchased my all-in-one tool with cloth scabbard off a spring display rack at a Target store and have spotted similar tools at Home Depot, Ace hardware and in  various garden supply catalogs. Prices vary. (2005)
