Harvest Knife I keep my harvesting knife in the greenhouse where it's just a couple of steps from the vegetable beds. I've added red cloth tape to the handle to make it a bit more visible in case I happen to set it down somewhere and then can't remember where. The red tape makes it more visible so it's not as apt to get lost in the garden. A splash of bright colored paint could also be used on the handle to aide in visibility. I purchased my two harvesting knifes from The Cook's Garden for about $12 each, not including the shipping and handling. I also noticed Harris Seeds sells two different blade shaped harvest knifes for $12.50, not including shipping and handling, and they both come with a leather sheath. You might want to pay the little bit extra for the protective sheath. Harris sells one as a broccoli knife and the other as a lettuce knife. All of the knifes have beech wood handles and seven inch blades. Overall length of the harvesting knives is about one foot.
A good, strong knife has many uses in the vegetable garden whether it's for harvesting crops, opening a bag of potting soil or cutting string. The large size makes it easy to handle and less likely to get lost. You might want to add a harvest knife to your often used collection of garden tools. |
