With names like Thumper, Peter Rabbit, and Fluffy it's hard to get too upset about a cottontail rabbit. Besides, the defenseless creature has to rely on its speed and willingness to hide, for survival. It's one of those animals that is low on the food chain that manages to breed profusely to maintain its survival of the species. Coyotes, hawks, cats, dogs and anything else that can catch it will eat it. These cute little bunnies seem to eat any green thing they can sink their teeth into. They're especially fond of  the plants Tucson gardeners put in their landscapes. Fortunately there are some plants they find repulsive whether it's the taste, texture or smell. I always thought they didn't like trailing indigo bush but they eventually nibbled the one in the previous picture to the ground. The cottontail pictured below is perched on a log to feed on creosote bush. [ Back ]

Think of him as "Thumper" and he's kind of cute.
