Getting Potted
Where to Find The Right Pot(s)
No doubt you've seen
plenty of plant containers when you've shopped the different garden centers and
nurseries. But space is sometimes limited and that means the selection of
pottery may
be limited. If you're not in a hurry to get that plant in a
container or you're looking for the container first, then you might want to
visit some of Tucson's pottery specialty stores.
These
locally owned businesses sell a variety of
pottery imported not only from Mexico, but South America, China, Southeast
Asia and other parts of the world? The pottery can vary greatly in style and
quality depending on the clay, glazing, and firing method used. Below,
listed alphabetically, are four places to look for an incredible assortment
of pottery varying in size, style, quality, color and price.
Joel's Pottery
Joel's
Pottery located at 4945 N. Oracle Road just south of River Road between the
car wash and a Jack In The Box on the west side of Oracle, is open Wednesday
through Sunday, 9:15 - 5:00. Phone: 444-3200.
Joel's carries a
variety of large and small pottery from Mexico,
Vietnam, and China along with many of interesting odds and ends for the
Tucson garden.

The Mexican
Garden
The Mexican garden has
two locations. The larger location is at 2901 N. Oracle Road, located just south of Miracle
Mile on the west side of Oracle. The other location for The Mexican Garden
is at 2854 E. Grant Road on the south side. Open seven days a week. 9 am.- 6
p.m. Monday - Saturday, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. on Sunday. Phone: 624-4772.
The Oracle
location is a pottery wonderland with inventory from all over Mexico along
with both Peruvian and Columbian pottery. There's plenty of highly glazed
and fired colorful Vietnamese pottery. There's also a selection of large
concrete bowls and pots as well.

Located just west of
Alvernon on the south side of Grant at 3840 E. Grant Road is Pottery Blow
Out. Look for the bright yellow building. Open seven days a week from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. Phone: 325-6683.
Specializing in
durable, highly glazed pottery from around the world Pottery Blow Out's vast
selection of various sized, glazed and distinct shapes should be able to
fill the needs of anyone looking for designer quality pottery for inside and
outside the home. Inventory is constantly changing so you'll never know what
you'll discover on your next visit.

Quality Pottery,
Etc.
You may have to drive a
bit further if you live on the east or north side of the city to get out by
the
airport past the Tohono O'doham Desert Diamond Casino to reach 8210 S. Nogales
Highway. There you'll find Quality Pottery, Etc. on the west side of the
road. Open seven days a week. 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4
p.m. Sunday. Phone: 294-2324.
With plenty of
pottery and some nice tiled concrete benches and tables, Quality Pottery has
a big building to house Mexican pottery and plenty of space outside for
storing and displaying well glazed and fired pottery from China and Vietnam.
