Editor's Note If it's free, like most websites ̶ including this one ̶ then you can't complain when it suffers from irregularity. As writer blocked as the Tucson Gardener was this year he doesn't lose too much sleep if new articles don't show up on these pages in a timely manor. The current thought around here is, "I'm working on it", even if that entails a Sunday afternoon nap in the hammock. Some of the articles on this site actually take a bit of preparation and a fair amount of experimentation. The Varmint Proof Raised Beds has been in the works for over a year. And they are still undergoing some changes. I know when I have guests over for dinner, and a fresh, winter salad is served, I like to tell them it took me months to prepare. And it does, if you grow your own salad greens from seed to maturity. The same goes for some of the articles on this site. They take months to prepare. Most readers don't realize it. You can skim through a page in a few seconds to see if there's any information you want before you move on. You might stay a bit longer if you click on one of the thumbnails to look at a photograph more closely. That's the way the Web works. It's kind of a love'em and leave'em attitude because there always seems to be something new, maybe different, maybe better, a quick click of the mouse away. Here, at The Tucson Gardener, I hope readers enjoy and article or two enough that they might stop by again sometime in the future to see if something new and, possibly worthwhile, has been added. I know there are a few fans from an email or two, and the commercial sites that would like their link on this site. Summer, like new information on The Tucson Gardener, seemed to be slow in coming this year. A cool May with a few cloudy days and a bit of rain made me spend more time in the garden and rockin' (in a comfortable chair) on the porch. But now that it's June, with the days getting down right hot, it's time to get up early in the morning to tend to the plants, and again in the evening after the sun goes down. The water bills are going to climb, especially if you try to maintain a vegetable garden in the summer. Mine will be history before the middle of June and I won't plant again until fall. With summer here, try to conserve water, conserve energy and by all means, enjoy your garden. -- The Tucson Gardener
