Useful Reading
If you don't have copies of the eight inexpensive booklets published by the Arizona Native Plant Society and you're a Tucson desert gardener then you may not know the best adapted trees, ground covers, shrubs, and grasses for your garden.

The small (9" by 4") booklets are only $2 each and well worth the investment. Titles include:

Desert Trees
Desert Shrubs
Desert Ground Covers and Vines
Desert Grasses
Desert Accent Plants
Desert Wildflowers
Desert Bird Gardening
(published in conjunction with the Tucson Audubon Society)
Desert Butterfly Gardening
(published in conjunction with the Sonoran Arthropod Studies Institute)

ANSP publications.

Eight different very useful booklets from the Arizona Native Plant Society.

Each booklet is well illustrated with color photographs and seems to be authored by committee to provide the best information from knowledgeable people. The books are so convenient to use you might find yourself sticking one in your back pocket for a quick reference source. Each booklet's information is concise so you don't have to worry about getting overwhelmed by too many choices which can be a problem when you're trying to figure out what you want to plant in your garden.

Just the right size for a back pocket.

The ANPS booklets are just the right size to stick in a back pocket so they're available for quick reference like this copy of Desert Wildflowers.

On a couple of occasions I've given away copies of the Desert Trees and Shrubs booklets to new desert gardeners looking for information. Later I found myself needing one of the booklets and had to buy new copies to replace those I'd shared.

Finding copies in a bookstore might be difficult but if you're really interested in owning some or all of the Arizona Native Plant Society booklets you can visit their Web site and print out an order form. (1999)
