Garden Critters
I spent a few
mornings and evenings wandering the garden with camera in hand to see what kind of
pictures I could get of the local wildlife. Some of the critters were camera shy while
others seemed down right cooperative. All of the photographs were taken in August, 1999.
These two swallowtail butterflies were
cooperative. One was interested in food from the red bird of paradise, the other in
catching a mate. |

Even with the camera's flash the speedy
moth's actions couldn't be stopped. |

This young tarantula was out early in the
morning walking up the wall of the house. |

It was hard to tell what this ugly
duckling would grow into if it survived. The Mockingbird's parents let me know whenever I
got too close. |

This little hummingbird and I became good
friends. The only thing he wouldn't do was smile. |

In August when the prickly pear cactus
fruit was ripe many of the birds and animals ate well. |

This rock, although in partial shade, was
still too hot for the lizard to rest his tail. |
